Preparing for Peru: Postponed

Unfortunately, my trip to Peru has been postponed since there weren’t enough participants on that departure. Hopefully, I’ll get to go sometime next year.

I had set aside a large chunk of my vacation days for it, and since I can’t carry them over to next year, I had to find something else. So my wife and I are going island-hopping in the Caribbean. A few days in Puerto Rico, and then a cruise to the US Virgin Islands, Antigua, Dominica, and Grenada. I’ve got bird guides lined up in the latter two. Anyone have suggestions/tips for the others?

Too bad about the trip to Peru, but it seems you have definitely salvaged your vacation days. I went to Puerto Rico a couple of years ago and really enjoyed two places in particular. There is a rain forest called El Yunque located towards the eastern end of the island; I stayed in a “eco-lodge” and had a blast, lots of interesting birds and other wildlife and environments to see. I also spent a couple days on a small island off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico, it was called Vieques; again, I had a blast there. I would definitely recommend either or both locations as great destinations. Have fun!

    Grant,

Hope you get a good trip. It sounds very nice indeed and something your wife will enjoy. I also hope to see you (both?) next year in Peru. Did you see Rick Wright’s trip reports from the trip you were going to do?
